The Lancashire, Yorkshire & Cheshire Basset Hound Club was given it's Kennel Club licence in 1979 some eighteen months after it's Founder Member, Mr Richard Hankinson of Stalybridge, had decided to make enquiries as to why there was no Basset Hound Club covering this very large region.

It was because of all the initial hard work done by Mr Hankinson that a caricature of himself was taken up as the Club's logo. Richard being seen round the ring in the early days with his deerstalker on his head and a distinctive bent stemmed pipe in his mouth.

Initially, Mr Hankinson took up the position of Treasurer, but since leaving the Club he has become famous for playing a leading role in the Morris Men and for a time held the position of Squire of the Society.

Alec Graham, of Fred Basset fame, was our Joint President. After he died the Club retained its long link with the Graham family, as Winnifred, his widow, kindly took on the mantle. Prior to his death, the Club was fortunate in being able to persuade Liz Fraser, the well-known actress, owner and friend of the Basset Hound to become our other joint President.
